| Eyre
Square, in the heart of Galway City, was originally called "Fair Green". However, in 1710 Mayor Edward Eyre, who had inherited this area of land from his father, had the name changed. At its center, the Quincentennial Fountain can be found. It was placed there in 1984 to mark the 500th anniversary of the granting of a Charter to the city by King Richard III (1484). |
