| Castleblayney is named after Sir Edward Blayney who
received a grant of land in the area from James I in
1611. The town is built on ground sloping up from the
western shore of Lough Muckno, the largest of Monaghan's many
lakes. Henry Thomas Hope built Hope Castle on the
site of the original Blayney Castle. |
